Important Installation & Flush Instructions
To protect your new pump and maintain warranty coverage, the entire power steering system must be flushed before operating the vehicle.
- Remove pressure and return lines from the pump. Flush the reservoir, return, and pressure lines by pouring new approved fluid through the components until the fluid runs clear.
- Reconnect the pressure line to the pump and steering gear / rack. Reconnect the return line only to the steering component.
- Place the open end of the return line into a drain pan and cap the return port on the pump reservoir to prevent leakage.
- Fill the power steering pump reservoir with new fluid specified for your vehicle.
- Disable the engine so it can be cranked but will not start (refer to your service manual).
- Crank the engine in short intervals, adding fluid as needed until the fluid coming from the return line is free of air bubbles. Never let the pump run dry.
- Install an in-line power steering filter in the return line to protect the new pump and other components. This is highly recommended and may be required for warranty.
- Reconnect the return line to the pump and ensure all hydraulic fittings are properly torqued. Do not overtighten or you may strip the threads.
- Confirm the fluid level in the reservoir is correct, then start the vehicle and check for smooth operation and any leaks.
Failure to properly flush the system and install a return-line filter can lead to premature pump failure and may void any warranty.
